ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAMS

Working with HCA and ESL-HCA students from different areas of the globe at Drake Medox College has been an incredibly rewarding experience for Cindy.

Upon earning a Degree in Education and a Specialist Qualification in Teaching English as a Second Language at the University of Toronto, she took her knowledge, skills and abilities to many parts of the world building English Programs and Instructing–Southeast Asia, India, Central and South America, the U.S.A., and across Canada. Now, in this beautiful west coast Canadian city, it is an honour for her to serve the students of Drake Medox College as they move toward a promising career in Healthcare and a new phase in life.

While training as a teacher, she learned that Adult Education has some special characteristics. It must recognize the knowledge adults bring to the learning environment; it must be respectful; it must be centred on the adults’ learning objectives. She adds that Adult Education must also be enjoyable – when something makes us laugh and feel good, we remember it! When you walk by an English class in action at DMC, this enjoyment is often evidenced through joyful laughter and exchange. The Joy of Learning is something Cindy takes to heart and applies in all of her work as an Educator.

Success Story

Since completing the Health Care Assistant training course at Drake Medox College, I have gained the necessary knowledge, training, skills and confidence to work effectively with the elderly, children and people with developmental disabilities. I believe this course has helped pave the way for greater job opportunities and I since successfully been hired both as a live-in Manager and as a Life Skill Worker. Thank you so much Drake Medox College.
